Our Focus
Northwood has three primary areas of focus for Outreach. These are the things we feel God is calling our church specifically to do.
Welcome The Stranger
Northwood strives to be a welcoming community. This is manifested in our work with refugees, forcibly displaced people fleeing for their lives. Northwood partners with the International Association for Refugees, Arrive Ministries, and other organizations to help with resettlement efforts here at home, and to provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support in refugee camps around the globe.
Do not take advantage of foreigners who live among you in your land. Treat them like native-born Israelites, and love them as you love yourself. Remember that you were once foreigners living in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
Leviticus 19:33-34
Feed The Hungry
Food insecurity is a real and present danger to millions of people both home and abroad. Our work with CROSS Social Services, Feed My Starving Children, Compassion International, and countless other organizations both locally and internationally comes from our desire to be a loving church actively working to eradicate global hunger.
Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
Matthew 25:34-36
Bless Our Community
Healthy churches grow healthy communities. Throughout the Bible, God’s followers are called to bless those around them. Northwood Church strives to be a loving church, working to meet the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of our neighbors. We work with local schools, youth organizations, food shelves, and community leaders to do the best we can to improve the lives of every person around us regardless of their belief system.
And work for the peace and prosperity of the city where I sent you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, for its welfare will determine your welfare.
