The Design

The Future is Near

We live in a quickly changing world, where landscapes are constantly changing. At Northwood Church, you could say that our landscape is literally changing every day!

On June 1, 2022, Northwood coordinated with the Maple Grove Fire Department to burn down the existing structure on our property. The Maple Grove Fire Department was grateful to use the property as a training exercise for their paid and volunteer staff, and our church was grateful to have it burned down because we had much less remaining material to remove and dispose of after the fire! About 20 of us gathered at the site that day, and took some great pictures of the event. Once the fire was lit, it didn’t take long for the fire to consume the entire structure, leveling the home. We really appreciated the good people at the Fire Department, and their cooperation with Northwood Church.

The middle part of June was spent readying the loan needed for the coming construction, and preparing for our next big event!

On June 26, 2022, Northwood held our first ever groundbreaking event. Nearly 120 of us were on site to hear more about the building process and its timeline, to hear from long-time Northwooders about how our church ministries will grow as a result of our permanent home, and to spend some time in prayer for our church and its outreaching ministries. We prayed that Northwood Church will find ways to reach our local community, partnering with them in different ways to use our new building.

And then it was time for digging holes and taking pictures! Everyone lined up and had a chance to wear a hard hat and dig some dirt. The new building’s footprint was staked out in the newly mown grassy field, rooms were marked off, and everyone had a chance to walk through the building, imagining conversations with friends and new visitors who come to spend a Sunday morning with us. We finished off the event with some great food provided by one of our church families. It was a memorable and blessed afternoon.

The site construction began in September 2022. The building is currently under construction with changes happening daily! A roof, windows, and doors will be installed before winter, ensuring us the ability to complete the construction by late spring 2023.

More updates will come, and we will continue to add pictures along the way. Please join us on our building adventure by (1) praying for everyone’s safety on the project, and that things will proceed smoothly and (2) joining with us financially, in giving to help us pay for this new permanent home for Northwood Church. God has provided much for us along the way, allowing us to grow our ministries and staff our purposeful church life. We are anxious to meet our new neighbors, who will be living in the new townhomes being built next door to our property. We can’t wait to invite them into our building, joining us in worship and friendship. Here we go!

So what is the next event? We expect the site construction work to start by the beginning of August 2022. After the site is prepared, our concrete and steel supplies will be delivered, and the true construction work on the building will begin. A roof, windows and doors will be installed before winter, ensuring us the ability to complete the construction by late spring 2023.
